My favorite animal!

A common myth about my favorite animal is its name. The legend says that an English man asked to native people: what it’s the name of this animal? And one of them answered kangaroo (which means in their language: “I don’t understand you”).

A kangaroo is a marsupial which means that has a distinctive pouch (called the marsupium), in which females carry their young through early infancy. This is the characteristic that I love from these animals since I was little when I saw one on TV. I like this animal for many reasons.

Firstly, these animals are uncommon mammals because they finish their gestation period in their “marsupium bag” so the kangaroo mothers are so careful. Also this bag works like a transportation system that protects the little kangaroos from some predatory animals.

Furthermore, the kangaroo belongs to the family Macropodidae which means “large foot”. This characteristic explains why Kangaroos are the only large animals to use hopping as a means of locomotion.

In addition, the kangaroo is a national symbol of Australia because you can find it only in this country. It is the emblem used on the Australian coat of arms, on some of its currency, as well as by some of Australia's best known organizations like an airline.

The larger kangaroos have adapted very well to changes brought to the Australian landscape by humans. Nevertheless, many of small ones are endangered because the wild ones are shot for meat, sport, pets, and to protect grazing land for sheep and cattle.

In my opinion, this is a very bad practice because only one country has this beautiful animal, so I think that they should protect them, further more if they are the national symbol. I’d like to work educating about animal protection (not only kangaroo) specially endemic species.

The best thing of Santiago city is that you can make too many activities and visit so beautiful places. I think that outdoor activities are the best. Also, have places to have fun and eat very well!!! Maybe this following list can be a good possibility to know great places:

1. - San Cristobal and Santa Lucia Hill
These hills are a beautiful possibility to make an outdoor activity. You can go up riding a bike, walking, climbing, and also you can get the top in a cable railway and see a big part of Santiago. Have a great see! Also, in San Cristobal hill you have the Metropolitan Zoo, Tupahue pool, the Immaculate Concepcion sanctuary and a beautiful Japanese garden. I suggest arriving in the morning and take pictures.

Death Penalty

The death penalty or capital punishment is the killing of a person by judicial process as a punishment for a seriously offense or crime like kill. This type of punish is put in practice in countries like United Stated, Japan and China. This sentence was use in some characters like Saddam Hussein.

In my opinion, like the previously example, in some cases it is understandable to consider this possibility because he made so much crimes against with the humanity. I reckon that serials killer, serials rapist, incest people, some pedophile and people who had make cruel crimes (crimes against the human’s rights) maybe deserve the capital punishment. But I feel that this is a complicated topic because they could be sick (like psychiatry problems). Also I don´t believed that anyone have the rights to decide the death of another person.

To be honest, I believe that in some countries take this measure because the jails are so full with prisoners. As well the numbers of crimes at this time are increased and also the crimes are crueler. So it seems to me that this is the way that the authorities use to scare and avoid the offenses.

Finally, in my view, I am in favor with the death penalty only in some extremely cases, but in general I prefer the eternal condemn, but it’s true that is unfair that this persons are maintain with the honestly person’s money .

A country who I like to visit

I always dream to travel far away from here like to another continent, especially to a place that I can camp or be in touch with nature. I believe that the better place for me is South Africa. This place is perfect for me because I love to know about old and strange cultures and live new experiences. The first thing that I’ll do is go to a safari, because I love animals and see them in their wild place. That will be extraordinary for me. If I would work in there, will be the best thing in my life. I’ll enjoy working in something like animal behavior or the relationship of African people with animals.

The things I know about South Africa is that it have too many tribes with cultures totally different that I know. I like the contact with nature, the music and the rituals that they have. Also I know that is a very poor country with many sick people with SIDA, so I’ll like to help them in something. Obviously, I know that is the place chosen for the next FIFA world cup, so I´ll like to see the Chilean selection in a football game.

The bad side is the language because they mix the indigenous language with English. Also the illness scared me a lot. And the most important reason, there is too expensive to travel that far.

My last term 2009

Last year, I lived the most difficult semester of the carrier. In the first term I had to suspender it, so I’d return to study in the second term and I was so nervous. Firstly I suffer very much with pathological physiology because is very difficult and my classmates and me had to attend a clinic case, and our dog died. It was so sad but I learned so much about clinical aspect in pets and I loved the small animal clinic.

The best of the last term was the elective class. I took Gym-dance. It was so funny. We had to make a choreography that was very comic and embarrassing but the important thing it was that I made exercise. Also, in that time I started the relationship with my boyfriend so I was very happy!

I think that the last term was the most stressful. I felt that I didn’t have time for nothing. I was always study. Although I had to suspend a subject and I failed another one, I thought that it worth to try to return to the studies and was able to confront the adversity. At the end, I finished the term so tired so I traveled to my home in Iquique and I had rest so much!

Transantiago's way

The initiative of the “transantiago” plan pretended to improve the transportation in Santiago city. The idea was created an organized and modern system with defined schedules and routes. This was going to replace the all yellow buses, the tickets, the “sapos” and the way to pay. Although not all that glitters is gold…

The transantiago’s buses were design to keep more people inside, inclusive disabled people. This was a big problem in the old transporting system. Also, the transantiago’s drivers don´t have to manipulate money, so they are more safe because they were victims of attacks and robs.

On the other hand, I think that the routes don´t satisfy the people’s needs, because most people have to travel in 2 or more buses or others types of transportation to mobilize. Also, the schedules are useless because they don´t function well. The frequency of buses in the streets don´t satisfies the demand in peak hours.

My experience when transantiago started, it wasn´t special, because I had arrived recently to town, so I tried not to get out much. Later I started to suffer the recurrent pushes between people and the permanent dislike because the squeeze of crowd.
Maybe these problems would be fixed if the government put more buses and new routes in the plan. Also I think that it is so important to change our mind about the “terrible transporting system” and try to keep it the best way has possible.
